hey ladies.

whoa, 3 justin posts in a row?! it’s a christmas miracle!

so, i haven’t had a professional haircut since last august (yes, as in august of 2008) and i haven’t had any kind of haircut since i had justin trim my hair in march so obviously i’m waaaay overdue. mostly i’ve been putting it off and putting it off because i dread finding a salon and a hairstylist. this drives my husband crazy and even though i insist that he’ll miss this (and all my other) little idiosyncracy when i’m dead and gone someday he insists that he will not. anyway, the long and the short of it is that my husband is sick of talking about my hair, so i turn to you, friends. i had decided whole-heartedly 100% on copying the hair of my favorite t.v. lesbian, devin from friday night lights:

pros: not too long, not too short. can still pull my hair into a ponytail. seems fairly low maintenance.

cons: not too sure about the bangs. i have yet to be able to pull off straight bangs, but then again it’s probably because i’ve never had professionally cut straight bangs.

so like i said, i was all decided, but then in my internet window shopping i came across the etsy shop thrush and the owner of the shop or the model that she uses has some pretty cute hair:

it reminds me of my favorite haircut – my short, black 2002 hair.

pros: cute cut, a length that has worked well for me, would be fun to style, my husband likes shorter hair.

cons: higher maintenance – hair is cute for a couple of weeks and then it turns into weird, wonky grow-out hair. no ponytails.

so i turn to you, my faithful readers, for your input. which one do you like better?

i like the lesbo haircut. i mean…i like devin’s cut. from someone who gets their hair cut like it’s nobody’s business, i think you should try out professional bangs. the best part of getting your hair cut short (and for some reason, most stylists don’t tell you or want to offer this) is that you can go back for complimentary bang trims and neck trims. your haircut is their signature, and if they can’t keep it looking good, they can’t get more clients.

one thing i used to hate about my old stylist in minneapolis was that she would tell me what she would not cut my hair into, but now i realize she was trying to help me. i always always always recommend going in and doing a consult, because then you don’t have to pay for anything yet and can get a feel for what you really want through who may cut your hair. if they can’t envision a cut for you and think that any picture of hair will look good on you, they are either liars or don’t know how to cut hair well.

one thing my stylist used to tell me when searching for haircuts was to “consider the hair.” for example, does that person in the picture have hair that could be like mine–straight, wavy, curly, fine, black, blonde, etc. all those things factor into whether or not that haircut they have will actually look good on your head or if they stylist can actually imitate it well onto your head. i don’t know why, but that is one thing i always forget.

yeah, i’m 100% back on board with the devin. i drove around the area and wandered into salons today and i’m hoping i found a winner. i have an appointment for tuesday, so hopefully i won’t walk out looking like a monster just in time for my family to get here.

I like Devin’s hair… but I have something against the straight across bangs. Always have, always will. But it got worse back at the start of ‘07. I’m not sure why (cough)emily(chough).

don’t listen to ryan. straight across bangs are always cool and always will be.
