this was quite the weekend, but unfortunately we didn’t take many pictures so i’ll just give you a general run-down.
friday we went to my first corn maze, or as i like to say, carn maze. richard carn maze. i’ve been talking about going to one for about 6 years now and i finally went. wow, after 6 years of anticipation you can imagine my expectations were pretty high. too bad for me i’m some kind of maze genius and had us out of there in about 10 minutes, meaning i paid almost a dollar for each minute i was in the maze. well, now i never have to talk about corn mazes again.
saturday my mission trainer, sarah squires drollette, was in town and came to visit with her husband ryan. it was fun to talk old mission stories and what’s happening nowadays. sarah and i have really similar backgrounds - moved around overseas in our youth and both of us have lived in the middle east - and justin and ryan have similar backgrounds - small town hicks. joke, i joke! she was one of my favorite companions so it was fun to get together and catch up for a few hours.
next amy and lauren came over to babysit as justin and i took a date night. we first went to the hare krishna temple for the festival of lights, diwalli. i was expecting it to be like the office episode where they went to the diwalli festival. well, we got there and they were carrying the krishna idol around the temple chanting and singing they were already almost to the end when we got there so we just tried to sneak up and blend in. that worked for all of 30 seconds since the place that we picked to stand turned out to be where they stopped the procession and sang and danced for 5 minutes right in our faces. awkward! when we realized that there was not an indian feast and we would have to pay to watch the rest of the dancing we high-tailed it out of there. the rest of the night was fun and baby-free, which was nice since he has been trying his hardest NOT to win mr. personality this week and i needed a break from elliott before i threw him in the garbage.
elliott reached his 3 month milestone on friday! justin and i were talking about how much more fun and interesting and easy to manage he is these days. and then he decided to refuse to sleep at night or during the day and to scream any moment where he didn’t have some food in his face for a couple of days. argh. 3 steps forward, 2 steps back…but overall he’s great. when he isn’t cranky he smiles and smiles and coos. his new favorite position is to lay on his back with his left hand in his mouth and his right hand holding his right foot. and as you can see on occasion he enjoys sucking on his foot. we took him down to arizona to visit his uncle brandon and aunt julie and he was a trooper. by the end of the trip he was d-o-n-e done with the car and he still hasn’t detoxed - he cries whenever we drive where he used to love being in the car. bummer for us, but hopefully that won’t be for forever. he’s growing so fast!
so that’s the haps as of late. i know. we’re boring. but in a month and a half justin graduates and we’ll hopefully become more interesting. but hopefully not in a “we don’t have a job so we have to live out of car” interesting. you know, homeless interesting. we’re looking more for international jet-setting interesting.
